Copyright does not extend to a photo by Elberry of Whewell’s Court in 2010, of which a part was used for the poster announcing the Book Colloquium in 2015. Departing from the original, we decided on a portrait format in order to emphasise the vertical in which we placed Wittgenstein’s tripartite window. The picture was rastered in black and white, softened in contrast and used as a background for the text. The overall appearance of the poster is meant to allude to the book covers of the original editions of Wittgenstein’s 1930-1932 and 1932-1935 lectures. We take this to be a tranformative and fair use of the original photograph. The poster served a non-commercial, purely educational and scientific purpose.
